Our Little Readers

This year Alex has really improved his reading skills. He reads to Libby often and mostly tolerates her snuggling with him because Alex has never been a snuggler.

It's also normal for Libby to fall asleep during our morning reading sessions, but this picture is special because her arm is around his neck...that, and she's practically laying on him and he's not bugged about it...oh, and my couch and floor usually aren't that clean. He must really be into this book.

This scene is becoming more and more common around here. Alex is reading Rules by Cynthia Lord, which is a few levels above his current reading skills, but I read this book to him a few months ago, he loved it, and he's slowly pushing through it at the rate of about one chapter per week.

He'll stop to ask me what a word is from time to time, but I'm amazed that it's not more often than it is.

We're currently reading The High King, which is the 5th (and last) book in Lloyd Alexander's Prydain series. They were a gift from Uncle Wo at Christmas. He really loves them, and I know he'll be re-reading them until they fall apart.

Libby "reads" too. She's not just looking at the pictures. She's really talking out the story...or making something up.

For a long time we were reading Nancy Drew books and so whenever she'd pick up a book she'd say, "And Nancy exclaimed..." "Then Nancy explained..." "And her mom died when she was 2..." "But Nancy exclaimed..."

I loved reading that book series by Lloyd Alexander. Kian wasn't old enough yet so I just read it on my own but it was great. How exciting to have such great readers.
